Thanks Troy
That is the Scope I think im going to get. With the Target turrets. I will try the Benchmark powder. And I have IMR 4064 I will try that in my Rem. 22-250 Now that it can go back to being just A hunting Rifle. How are the Bergers exit holes on Coyotes? And Fox for that Matter It will serve as My rifle for both.Mark

Grizz, I havent had any exit on coyotes, and they just drop. As a matter a fact all the bergers Ive been using, even the 140's for deer in my 7mm, Its tough to find an enterance hole. If you want to try bergers in your 22.250 you shoot go with 50, 52, or 55 gr bullets, as I'm sure your factory barrel is a 1-14" twist. Its recomended 1-12" or faster for the 60 gr's. As far as a fox gun an 22.250 is awful tough on them and usually blows them up pretty good, thats where my .222 comes in. Even that has been damaging to them on occasion, fox are pretty delicate. Honestly a shotgun with 4 shot or a .22 mag is great fox medicine, but I always feel better with a little centerfire. I really dont shoot many fox anymore, there just isnt that many around like there used to be cause the exploded coyote population. Ive passed on a few fox the last couple yrs, even scared them off, just cant get myself to shoot one right now. Back in the late 80's and in the 90's we used to get a couple hundred fox a year, and maybe a dozen coyotes, now its all coyotes and your lucky to see a couple fox a year.
Anyways, you should look at those 53gr. hornadys, there a nice flatbase bullet, Ive been having nice groups with Varget at 3550 fps., its a little faster burning than IMR 4064, seems to work a little better on the ligther 50 and 53 gr. bullets out of a 24" barrel vs. the 60grs's out of my custom 26" barrel on my remington. I load 50 gr vmax's with Varget for my buddy's heavy barrel remington (factory barrel), getting 3750 fps, makes one hole at 100yds.Troy

I will try them In both the 223 and 22-250 . Zonnie said that the flat base were more accurate allso. I Need A real accurate load for the Varmint Leauge deffinitly looking for 1/2" or better. The lower the velocity the better summer temps have been high even at 9 am and the 20 shots in 30 min's. has given me trouble in the past.Mark

I have found no better little bullet for my AR than a Speer 52g HP (flat base). It looks like the huge hollow point would not fly very well, but I've put up sub 1/2 moa 5 shot groups with them. I sold my AR and have 250 of them left.... p/n 1035 (two un-opened boxes and one partial box). 26.0g of Varget @ 2.210" gave me my best 0.325" group running at 2800fps. You could push these things to 3300fps if you needed to.

Next best thing was a 52g SMK HPBT- sub moa, but not Speer like.

Ordered my scope today. I went with the Hunting version. for two reasons. 1st and most importain. Midway has the Leupold 6-18X40 On sale for $ 429.99. Will have it by Fri. in time to test some loads this weekend. I will be testing 5 loads 50 gr.v-max just to compare the group woth the ones I shot before I changed to the BDL Stock. and then 4 diffrent powders using the Sierra 52 gr. match all loaded to 3200 fps. I will be testing IMR 4198 / TAC / IMR 3031 & H335 . I hope to find A good group in there somewear My 1st shoot is in March. The scope is on sale till Feb 29th. If anybodys interested you wont beat that price anywear.Mark

After changing Stocks I thought of an Old Article Buy Jim Carmichael Where he was testing two Ruger No.1 single shot rifles. One was A tack driver and the other had Gorgeous stock and forend. He kept the tack driver and swapped stocks. Only to find out the accuracy was gone. This was on my mind yesterday when I was testing loads. And sure enough after dialing in the new scope i was comparing A load that shot fairly well only to watch it double in size. And simply thought Well back to the VLS stock but then I got A few keepers the best from the least expected load with IMR 4198 A honest .560 5 shot group very close to what im looking for but not quite. So now im wondering if just shooting the match bullets makes that much of A diffrence I will have to take both stocks to the range and test them both before setteling on A load. Its fun work.Mark

Roger
This was with the new scope. I worked just fine on bullseye tagets nice and clear. We will have new targets this year and I havent seen them yet. They wont be as easy to pick out where you need to hit. Im hoping the 18 power is enough.Mark

Troy I realy do like the new scope. But that nasty Millette Had one feature I did like and that was the side focus. No winder it weighed A pund more. But at age 50 my eyes have gone south over the last 2 years and its time for glasses and I know that will help.Mark

The 1st. Match for 2012 is in the Books. Rifle and bullets did there job. But the Shooter didnt do his. Even thou I shot my 2nd. best score ever I was realy thinking I would do much better. I shot A 188 out of A possible 225. One of the 4 targets was my problem. I could not see my hits even with A spoting scope. I had two problems my eyes and I didnt trust my sighters. My sighters told me I was 3/4 " low and right rather than make adjustments I aimed Hi left thinking it would move to were I last had it set with A hot barrel. It never moved and on target 2 my shots were all low. Sence my sighters stayed the same thru the match I know my POI will stay the same thru the match. so next month I will have it dead on at the start. pluss im raising my rest another 2" that will cut down on eye strain from the prone position. and 3rd I have an appoinment with the eye dr. tomorrow. lol all three things will help. On A better note I qualified in the expert class but just barley and we will have 7 matches taking your 5 best scores. So I can hopfully wright this one off as A learning experince. But there are many more shooters this year and they havent posted scores yet but my freind Joe who has finished 1st and second the last two years shot A 220 with his new .204 ruger.  And that is the higest score ever so I have alot of work to do.Mark

Back to the drawing board. The 6-18x40 isnt enough scope. The targets are much tougher this year. and my eyes are worse. I simply cant see my hits. I need A scope with side focus. im thinking about the Leupold VX III 8 - 25 x50 with the side focus. Any body have any thoughts on this scope.Mark

Sounds like you might be looking for a Cometition scope if what you have does not work at 100 yds? what is your price point? Also a fluted barrel might be an option as the do stay a lot cooler than a regular contour barrel but not sure about bull barrels but it sounds like they heat up from what you mentioned? My Accumark stays very cool compared to my Vanguard barrel with same number of rounds down it! What kinda trigger ya have in that rifle?http://www.weatherby.com/support/faq/latest/items
