Anyone know the barrel twist rate on a Vanguard Back Country .30-06?
And who made the barrel?

Thanks,

Yes, the twist is 1 in 10".  Here's the link (look under the "specs" tab):

As for the barrel maker, I'll just say that the barrel and action for the Vanguard are both made by Howa of Japan, to Weatherby specs.  You'll catch a lot of crap from folks about how your Vanguard is a Howa, but just smile and ask the Browning owners how they like their Mirokus, and ask the Winchester fans how they like their FN's, and like magic the noise goes away.I believe this is a practical world, and in it I can count only on what I can earn.  Therefore I believe in work, hard work. - The Auburn Creed

Please don't misunderstand me, warthog, I have no issues with the Vanguard being made by Howa.  I find it to be a great rifle, great value, and it's far more accurate on average than the Remington or Winchester offerings.  I think it's more accurate than Savage, though that's debatable to some degree, but it sure looks nicer!I believe this is a practical world, and in it I can count only on what I can earn.  Therefore I believe in work, hard work. - The Auburn Creed

The Weatherby Vanguard Back Country .30-06 has a barrel twist rate of 1-10". The Barrel and action is made by Howa of Japan to Weatherby specs. And the stock is made by Bell & Carlson. The same stock that is used on the Sub-MOA .I called Weatherby on Wed. of this week and spoke with them about this very rifle. They told me that they are no longer offering a Vanguard with stainless barrel. So if anybody wants a stainless barrel you better get one now while you can still find one. I just bought one from GunBroker for $600.00 a steal IMO. Weatherby MSRP on these are $1119.00. I cant wait to get it. They are supposed to shoot better than an 1 1/2. Dont know if I'm going to put a matte black Leupold VX II 4-12x40 or a Nikon Monarch3-12x42 or 4-16x42 with Black Weatherby Vanguard Light weight mounts by Talley. Would like some opinions on the Scopes!  .30-06 sprg shoots flatter hits harder

I have a back country in .30-06 and love it.  It wears a set of Vanguard light weight 1pc meduim height mounts with a Vortex Viper 3-9x40mm scope.  If you have a chance to look at the Vortex line I don't think you will be disappointed.

TGN:I don't know how open an area you hunt in,but I would go with one of the Nikon Monarchs,3-12 if heavier cover.Just my opinion though.Roger
