There is a big diff. in weight if you ask me. I have two #4 barrled Mark V bee's one fluted 26 inch and one (non) fluted 22 in.. They are the same weight with same actions and stocks.

If you look at the numbers the wieght savings and cooling factors are so slight it's realy not an issue, and the stiffness vs diamater thing aint all that dramatic either, unless you really anal on these things?? and on the harmonics every barrel differs some like it stiff some like it not. As far as better accuracy with flutes all depends on how much your talking and who's shooting? I have a few fluted guns one purchased fluted and a couple that were done as an after thought, all shoot as they did with out fluting. and I don't know on the factory gun all I know is I did nothing special to get it to shoot great maybe Kimber had a hand in tthat one? Any way fluting is cool and fluting is a custom touch if it indeed helps well then alll is good.

For what its worth, I have a Vanguard Back Country 270 Win that is fluted.  Its lighter and shoot very well.  I'd buy another fluted barrel rifle.  My only gripe w/ the Back Country is that unlike the Accumark the flutes are not blackened.  I wish there was a way to get that done.  You gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?

Eagle Rider:I dont know for sure but I would think there would be a way to blacken the flutes.Check with your local gunsmith or maybe someone here knows who would do it or if it can be done.I hope we dont get black magic marker. GrinRoger

Well.... that's interesting.
My apologies Derril... i was about to call you crazy (in a nice way, of course).  My 2010 catalog says the ultralightweight has "24" or 26" barrel #1 contour blacened to reduce game-spooking glare with recessed target crown".
The online specs say "24" or 26" #1 contour (or modified #2 contour) fluted stainless steel barrel (blackened to reduce game-spooking glare) with recessed target crown (.583 for magnum and .547 for standard calibers)"
Yet both the catalog and online pics show a non fluted blued barrel (unless I just need a high res monitor to see the fluting).NBHFC

Petey: No worries. I hope you dont think i was being rude or anything with my post. After thinking about it it seems like it could be taken as rude but i was just being short and to the point.

Derrill:My first thought was black magic marker  Grin and I would be crazy enough to do it if that was what I wanted .I actually spray painted a 12 ga Shiney Rem 1100 because I thought it was spooking doves.Roger

Rustolemum it was  Grin. The kit even came with a plastic leaf to make patterns.Rather nice if I admit it myself.A friend with a Ruger Red Label commented on how good it looked.I told him I would be glad to do his but he refused for some reason?Still can't figure why.

Sorry to get off the topic Petey, but I feel you will be okay with it.

Roger,
If people stayed on topic, this site would not be nearly as much fun to read.
And yup, I'm absolutely fine with it.NBHFC
