Mark V in 30-06 (2 posts)

I just ran across a post over on the Weatherby Collector's forum by a guy who has a German Mark V in 30-06 with serial # P1167. He says this serial number puts manufacture in 1964. Purplefox66 confirmed for me in a PM that 1967 was the first year the Mark V was offered in 30-06. Is it possible that 1967 was the first year that Weatherby offered 30-06 as a regular production item, but before that you could order it as a custom build in 30-06?

You could probably order one before that date.I have a 243 Win.with a Timken barrel with a serial number without the "P" prefix. It has the safety on the trigger assembly instead of on the bolt.It was built not too much before this 30-06 we're talking about was manufactured.Surprisingly,Weatherby put out a lot of non magnum rifles early. Then seemed to get away from that and only chamber the 30-06.Smart move I think.
