Hi all,
I'm searching for a new rifle and it must have a clip/detachable magazine.  The reason being I have limited mobility being a quadrapeligic.  Loading one shell at a time is doable, but nowhere as efficient as popping a clip in the bottom.  I've tried the hinged floorplate method with frustrating results.  Shells all over!  Smiley  I'm hoping someone knows of a conversion kit that will allow me to tap into a 257wby.  I've seen the kits now offered for sme Vanguards, however none of those kits include a wby caliber.  I've almost given up the search as there's really no info on the topic anywhere, which leads me to believe it's just not available.  I hope I'm wrong as I've drooled over the 257 for years.  Wby please don't make me settle for a 25-06!

I would suggest that you try to get intouch with the Custom shop you never know what those guys might have access to. Tell them your situation And I am sure if there is a way they can make it work they'll make it happen for you. Good luck... Wink

sgwoopass, I've been working on this for you for A couple of hour's now and this is all I can come up with. Remington has A model 700 LSS in 257 Wby Mag. HS Precision make's A kit that will convert it to A clip/detachable mag. for $280.00 to $300.00. That is all I could come with for you. I hope this will get the job done. Good luck and let us know if it does work...Jerry

Good find.

I suspected it would be for 30-06 and shorter calibers, but this is on Midways website:

H-S Precision Trigger Guard and Detachable Magazine Assembly Remington 700 w/Hinged Floorplate Long Action 300 Winchester Magnum 3-Round Stainless Steel BlackProduct #: 234557
Status: Out of Stock, Backorder OK
Our Price:$278.99

I believe the ctg OAL of a 257 wby would work in this setup, but as stated above you would need a remington gun AND HS precision stock for this to work...

Try Wby custom shop,

Good luck

Guy's, the kit I found work's with the factory Remington stock. I got it off HS Precision site but you have to order it from one of their outlets such as Midway, Brownells, ect they have A list at there site. Weatherby custom shop is another hope I could not try as they are not open on Friday. I put one of these kits on my Rem 700 ADL along with A Remington 700 BDL camo stock that I picked at Cabellas for 100.00 From their catalog. Everything fit like A glove and the barrel was already free floated. Made that gun A sub MOA shooter with very little effort and it give's you A little extra bullet length while seating as they are A little longer. Good luck...Jerry   PS. I to would get the Weatherby if its possible to set it up the way you want it!

sgwoopass, I'm c/5-c/6 complete quad & shoot .257 Wby regularly. Large diameter cartrige helps... easier then .26-06 or .223... will detachable magazine work with your shooting rest/ rig? Anyway first step, call Wby custom shop. These guys 'like' to solve complications/obsticals (cool challenge for them). Toll free 1-800-227-2016
Reply or P.M. me for any additional stuff, ok? sra

Thanks for the leg work fellas!   Wink  I'll give the custom shop a dingle and see what they can do.  As far as a clip model working with my rig, my rid is a Ford half ton with a sturdy mirror rest.   Grin  I live in Saskatchewan, Canada and have a permit designed for the needy allowing you to discharge a gun from the vehicle.  Very handy!  I'm one of those crazy, gas burning road warriors you see during hunting season.  LOL!  Anyway, I appreciate all the help fellas and I'll let ya know.  Any other advice is greatly appreciated.  Cheers!

Pipe insulation or "Donkey Dick" on the top of the glass window will give you a great deal of elevation adjustment. You will not be disappointed in the .257!
