PA,  .223 Vanguard, using 55 gr Remington express the shot was over 100yds. should have put this in my first post... no pelt damageO C hunter

Nice job OC, I miss hunting fox. Its been a couple years since I shot a fox, had a chance to shoot two last year but let them be. Theres not many around here anymore, but I think there starting to come back.

bustinbirds,  i hunt in new york state in the finger lakes.  calls were primos double cottontail,  and female whimper distress.  was calling for coyote and this red showed up...O C hunter

do you have any market for hides? down here in AR we mostly sell coons or beaver.....i have always had several red/gray fox on my place but have nothing to do with them so i let them live.....

on another note are there any problems with having relatively high fox populations?

I can't imagine having fox around could be that bad of a thing. They would eat field mice and maybe get into the rabbits and gamebirds like grouse or pheasants, maybe turkey poult as well. If I noticed a drop in other game animals, that's when I would start to care. If you have a lot of fox that probably means there is a lot to eat.
