If you win the Antelope or Safari Dream hunt you get to choose an in-stock Vanguard for the antelope hunt and an Mark V Accumark in an in-stock caliber for the Safari. My choice for the antelope would be the 257Weatherby Mag,but since I am 257 poor already and getting the WNMR I would go for something else.I looked at the ballistics on several different ones and considered the 7mm08 but I think I would like to stay with a Weatherby caliber so I would pick the 300 Weatherby mag.For the Safari I would choose the 340 Weatherby Mag.I know it is overkill for plains game but I don't have one.On second thought maybe a 375 in case I ever win a Buff hunt there.Too many decisions Grin.
Which would you choose?Roger

Ditto Roger, I, also am .257 poor, so I  would have to go with the .300 & the .340 for the same reasons.JohnP

I would have to say 270wby in an accumark to complete the 257, 270 7mm trifector. In Vanguard I would have to say 308 because I don't have one and I need one.

I own a .340 now and I have ordered the Weatherby Nation .257, so I believe I would select the .300 Wby magnum. For a safari rifle it would be a choice between the .378 Wby. and the .416 Wby. Having those four calibers at hand should cover all of my needs anywhere I go for the rest of my days.I will believe corporations are people when Texas executes one.

If i could enter and i won the antelope hunt i'd swap it with one of you guys for a members rifle if no one wanted to swap i'm sure i could sell it but with the safari well that has the accumark so i'd definitely keep the rifle so i'd probably go on the safari haven't fully decided yet, maybe i should apply for us citizenship lots of other aussie's have what do you guys think

For the pronghorn antelope?  .257 Wby Mag.  I'd prefer a .270 Wby Mag, but, that is not offered.

For Africa?  I'd loved the .270 Wby, but would probably go with the .300 since I doubt that you'd be allowed to use the .270 on some of the larger African antelope.  Possibly the 7mm Wby Mag would do the job?  In reality, I'd probably ask for the PH's advice on this.... Smiley

ETA on 09/16/2010: Postings on another thread by folks who've hunted in Africa with a 270 Wby Mag have convinced me that that would be my dream rifle for an African hunt.  I'll stay with the 257 Wby Mag for the Pronghorn hunt in Wyoming since the 270 Wby is not offered in a Vanguard action....WinkNJL

I looked at the offerings in the Accumark line and 338-378 seems to be the biggest. So I don't have to worry about my second thoughts about the 375.Roger

For the antelope I would prefer the .240. Lopes are pretty small and .257 might damage to much. My experience with antelope has led me to believe that a 75 yrd standing shot is highly unlikely. Therefore a head shot is not likely.
For the safari i would like the .340. I have no experience with plains game but I do know i could use a .340 on our large bear or on mooses.
It's fun to think about but as a Canuck I am inelidgable to participate in this contest.

I would choose the 300 wby. I already have one in a mark v sporter but to me its still the greatest 30 cal on the planet so why not have another one! GrinWeatherby, If I have to explain it, you would not understand....
