I have entered a shooting competition for this coming July. It is a military rifle only contest. I will be shooting in class 1, which is manual action only ( bolt, lever etc.. ). Rifles must be original specs with original iron sights no modifications. I will be shooting my Lee Enfield jungle carbine No. 5 Mk1. 303 br. The shoot is 3 sets of 5 @ 100yds., prone, seated or kneeling and off hand. The only thing the shooter may customize is ammo. Does anyone have experience with such an event and can you recommend a bullet. It shoots federal premium 180's like a dream, but I'll be doing a lot of practice so I figured developing my own load would be wise to save money.
Thanks as always nation,
James.
P.S. Ed we Canadians ( Aussies, Kiwis, Africans...) would sure love a Vanguard in 303Br.one shot

James: Sounds fun is there any restrictions on slings, probably not and is it timed ? Make your self up a nice shooting pad & jacket for prone ? My wife made me one out of an old Army light field jacked with elbow pads. Ron

James:I have nothing to offer in the way of help but kudos to you to enter a competition with open sights and no rests.I can't remember the last time I shot a rifle without a scope or a rest(bipod, shooting stick,etc..)One of my friends is a Garand nut and everytime he gets a different one I go to shoot it with him and am amazed how good we shoot it with open sights(although with sand bags)
Good luck and kick some butt.

Ron,
The entry forms were at the pistol club tonight, said nothing about slings or time limit. I'm sure I'll get more info when my entry form is processed. Good idea on the shooting jacket, that 303 has a good bark in the prone position, no recoil pad on it, just super hard black rubber.
I found out that Ruger is doing a run of #1's in 303br. soon, apparently the pre order deposits are pouring in. Hope I can get one, but that 375 has to come first.

Thanks, Roger. My Dad first taught me to shoot with peep sights. My lee enfield has peeps, although not quite as refined as a Williams peep. Should be a good time.

James: Thoses 303's are pretty nice shooters, smooth, great rifle. It's surprising how accurate the peeps are especially with a good target. Maybe you an find out what targets they are using and start practicing on your sight picture. Give you a little test run to get comfortable. If it's a fairly large black bulls eye I can usually do OK, any small targets I can't see as well and gives me a fit of a time. What size groups can you get ? Ron
