I've had my share of 250's, some not worth a #*!p, some tack drivers.  Had good luck with remington heavy barrels with factory ammo, ballistic tips, just hate lugging those heavy barrels around through the deep snow. An accumark would be alot more managable, lighter and shorter.

My Son's First Time Shooting (5 posts)

Took my 5 year old out this weekend for his first time shooting.  Well, actually I set up the rifle and made sure it was pointed at the target (which was only 5 yards in front of the muzzle); he confirmed that it was still pointed at the target and then pulled the trigger.  But it was a great milestone for him (and me).

      BTW, we...

The times I spent teaching my son to shoot was some of the proudest times in my life. We had some wonderful times together. Congratulations to you!

      Weatherby quality (2 posts)

How do I tell what kind of quality a Weatherby shotgun (SA-08) has compared to the more expensive brands.  Exactly what makes a Ruger or Winchester so much more expensive?

As a complete newbie to shotguns, my viewpoint is pretty limited.

I held my new SA-08 at ~6.5lbs and then held my buddies Benelli Black Eagle II.  The basic construction seemed the same, but the Benelli was much lighter.

I paid ~$600 for my shotgun, and he paid ~$1200 for his.

I've only got 25 rounds throu...

I probably will pass on shooting a buck this year unless a real wall-hanger shows up, but perhaps maybe late in the season I will shoot one to give to someone that really needs the meat for their family.

Deer season for me is a time for wandering happily and aimlessly through the local mountains, picking mushrooms, and trying to keep ta...

            Fellow members,

I've been out of touch with the Weaterby Nation website for the past 3 to 4 weeks.  Has there been any significant development in our WMNR?

I have not heard anything new. They are taking orders until the end of this month, so we will probably not be hearing anything until next month after Weatherby has had time to see the final numbers.

Okay, so it is our time in Texas. The tropical storm that hit Mexico and South Texas is pounding us with rain bands coming off it.We are not close to the center of it but we are on the dirty side of it.Streets are full of water as are many of the creeks and there are tornado warnings for a number of counties.Much needed and welcome rain though.

Best bullet/velocity in 300 Weatherby for my Idaho Cow Elk hunt (2 posts)

I have a Idaho cow elk tag and will be hunting on opening day (October 5th). I am purchasing a Weatherby Vanguard SS (24" barrel) in 300 Weatherby Magnum. Any suggestions on commercial ammunition or the best bullet wt & velocity for handloading?

                300winboise,
The 300 Wtby will do nicely with any good bullet, but I personally recommend the 180 gr Nosler Partition. It will do the job, if you do yours.

is the sub moa vangard worth the money (8 posts)

I am thinking of buying a Vangard sub MOA, but am wondering if it's worth the extra $.  What do you get that's extra over the normal Vangard. Thanks

I think I can best answer this by an example.

I bought a .204 Sub MOA Varmint. I put a scope on on it, took a box of shells and zeroed it and was firing 100m with great accuracy and grouping. Liking that so much I decided to try and get my Mark V 7mm Wby Mag to be my long range go to Sub MOA and started zeroing it for that (it had been z...

                      Looking for a 340 need some advice/help (14 posts)

I am new here and I am a huge fan of the Weatherby calibers. With that said, I am looking at purchasing a 340 for hunting brownies, moose and other critters here at home. The 340 seems to bridge the gap between the 30 and 35 calibers and has some very impressive ballistics. I was doing a little research and couldn't find the gun I was looking ...
